In his 1935 essay "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction," Walter Benjamin argued that an artwork's aura — its unique presence rooted in a particular time and place — dissolves once reproduction enables mass circulation.

Had Benjamin lived to see the digital age, he would likely have expected streaming, which delivers identical files to millions simultaneously, to erase whatever aura remained.

벤야민이 디지털 시대까지 살아서 목격했더라면, 수백만 명에게 동시에 동일한 파일을 전달하는 스트리밍이 남아 있던 아우라마저 지워버릴 것이라고 예상했을 것이다.

Yet the South Korean group BTS achieved precisely the opposite.

그러나 한국 그룹 BTS는 정확히 그 반대를 이루어냈다.

During their October 2020 online concert "Map of the Soul ON:E," approximately 993,000 paid viewers across 191 countries and regions experienced the same broadcast, and despite receiving identical digital signals, fans described the event as singular and unrepeatable.
